On Location

NES

SCREENS

When participating in Copenhagen at CTEC “On Location”, players will strictly be competing on original Nintendo-licensed equipment – with the exception of the screens.

There will be a row of qualification stations with NES consoles, tested controller & CRT TV available to all who participants who stand in the queue.

SCREENS: Monitors, screens/, TVs, CRTs etc are original CRTs with tubes.

CTEC (Copenhagen, Denmark) provides a row of TV CRTs by same brand to make sure each player has the same experience at every game as well as all players sharing the same experience collectively.

Due to the fragile state of the old tech and the need to move around, the screens will most likely differ in size to be able to provide as many stations as possible.

We aim at providing two categories of screens for the qualification queue.

TV: Expect quality “Bang & Olufsen” like BeoVision MX6000

PVM: High-end PVM professional screens (used for colorgrading and such).

Players in the queue are allowed to pick between the two categories but not select one specific screen.

CONTROLLER

Players may bring their own controllers but most 3rd party products and controllers with moderations are not accepted (see below)

We follow the same set of rules as CTWC. A player may always refer to the latest set of rules regarding controllers from CTWC and overrule what is set by CTEC.

CTEC officials may disqualify any controller not listed here or for being in a state that can not be verified which includes other 3rd party controllers, controllers with turbo features, homemade moderations, etc. In extreme situations a player might be required to open the controller to check for moderation. Tools will be provided by CTEC.

It is permitted to replace the conductive rubber pad button contacts with new and/or similar type and material. 3rd party products can be used if they resemble the original and follow the rules stated above.

A score, qualification, game etc may be deleted, removed, cancelled etc due to controller not living up to the criteria.

CLASSIC GAME BOY LIMITATION BUG

Please remember that we play on original Game Boys and that their hardware has this challenge. It is not the CTEC equipment, it is how the Game Boy is build.

As mentioned in the video – you are allowed to bring your own classic Game Boy. However, only to be used when we are not competing via VGA (as it will add benefits to some). VGA is expected in the finals and maybe earlier in the bracket. Depending on attendance and number of Game Boys brought along.

GAME BOY

Tournament Bracket

  • 16 Players can qualify (in 2022)
  • As an option players can qualify on official CTEC Game Boys but are allowed to use own Game Boys following the rules stated below.

  • Seeding: Highest qualification score will compete against lowest qualification score.

Qualification

  • Game Mode: Type A
  • Highscore will be noted and determined bracket seeding.
  • Player’s own original classic Game Boy is permitted during qualification when a qualification seat is available.
  • Number of qualification seats will be stated at the Game Boy area.
  • When all seats is occupied the next player who wants to qualify will form a queue.
  • Every seated player gets one qualification try per seating.
  • If there is no queue the player may try again until queue is formed and the player must go to the back of the queue for next qualification try.
  • When a player want a qualification score submitted, the player must stay seated and raise player’s hand to communicate are score has been made. A CTEC referee will go to player, note player’s name and score and player is then ready to leave the seat with an official CTEC qualification submitted.
  • Wether or not a player is competing on CTECs Game Boys or on Player’s own Game Boy, the qualification score is only valid when the requirements from above are met.

NOT ACCEPTED GAME BOYS

All other versions than the original Game Boy unless stated as accepted.

Online

When playing online we understand that the growing cost of 2nd hand consoles and the disappearing number of PAL versions available should not be limiting new players to enter the wonderful world of Tetris.

CTEC is not officially supporting clone creations but is neither in a position to deny the presentation on the systems listed above.

If you are doubting wether or not your system will meet the standard criteria then make sure there is no option for save states and no option to use roms by default
